A new project is taking shape in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, one that brings hope and builds a future. Fundación Visión is planning to build an eye clinic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Directly next to the clinic, an agricultural farm of about ten hectares is to be established. In this way, not only will fresh food be provided for the clinic staff, but the medical services on site will also be strengthened for the long term.

The clinic is intended to help people who would otherwise have little or no access to high-quality eye care. At present, Fundación Visión is already active in the Congo and is treating patients with eye diseases in rented facilities.

What this means in very practical terms can be seen in the moving example of 35-year-old Françoise. She was completely blind, desperate, and without hope. Yet the very next day after her operation, she was able to see again. For many people there, thank God, there is a joyful “before and after.” Experiences like this make it clear just how valuable this help is for the people.

In order for this important work to be secured permanently, the agricultural farm is meant to become a key foundation of the entire project. Plans include the cultivation of corn and vegetables, the raising of chickens and cattle, and the development of an independent water supply. In this way, a reliable basis for the daily work of the mission will be built step by step.
For this undertaking, volunteers with agricultural experience are being sought who are willing to help for at least one year, and preferably for two years. Their work will range from fencing the property and planning the cultivation areas to caring for livestock and helping establish a well and a functioning irrigation system. Every contribution will help make the clinic more independent and stronger.

But the impact of this project is meant to reach even further. Small farmers in the surrounding area are also to be supported through practical training, personal guidance, and concrete assistance. Better farming methods, higher yields, and greater self-sufficiency can open up new opportunities for many families. In this way, a project located on the clinic grounds can become a blessing for an entire region.

This undertaking shows impressively how closely health, provision, and lived compassion belong together. Where eyesight is preserved or restored, a strong foundation for daily life is also needed. That is exactly where this project begins: it seeks to provide food, let hope grow, and strengthen a medical mission that will benefit many people in the Congo.
